The United States announced this Friday Mark de Rosa as the manager of the US team for the 2023 World Baseball Classic with which it hopes to revalidate its 2017 title.
“That honor. I feel completely honored. I will do everything in my power to win. This is one of the most important moments of my life in baseball”, expressed the new leader of the Stars and Stripes team.
DeRosa spent 16 years in the Majors as a player in which he wore the uniform of the Braves of Atlanta, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Guardians, St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants, Washington Nationals and Toronto Blue Jays.
DeRosa finished his career with 100 homers, 975 hits, 494 RBIs, and a .268 career average.. The 47-year-old American retired in 2013 with Toronto.
As a player, he was characterized as a utility man who could play multiple positions in a great way in the infield. and he was a timely hitter. Now as manager he will have a great team to seek the two-time championship with the United States.
For the tournament, which will be played in March of next year, the United States is part of Group C, along with teams from Mexico, Colombia and Canada.
In recent months, the United States has confirmed the participation of several big players. Mike Trout of the Anaheim Angels is the team’s center fielder and captain.and the rest of the members is made up of:
Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies; Pete Alonso, of the New York Mets; Nolan Arenado, of the St. Louis Cardinals; JT Realmuto of the Phillies; Trevor Story of the Boston Red Sox and Paul Goldschmidt of the Cardinals.
The team has yet to define the shortstop, left fielder and pitching rotation. who will be part of the American delegation that has the players and now the manager to repeat his title that he won in 2017.
