The tragedy of Federico Andueza, the Uruguayan who scored Sarmiento’s second goal against River at the Monumental

Soccer players are people’. That phrase, widely used by those who were inside a court, is frequently repeated every time a player is criticized, perhaps excessively, after some mistake on the field of play. It’s just that life goes on outside the court with the problems of any ordinary person.

This is the case of Federico Anduezathe defender of Sarmiento de Junín who scored one of the goals in the victory of the team of Israel Damonte in the Monument. And in that goal, probably the most important of his career on stage and what he had to experience in the previous week, the 25-year-old Uruguayan let off steam.

First, he shouted it effusively and hugged with his companions. Then, alone, he pointed with his hands and his eyes to the sky and, as could be heard in the official broadcast, launched a “For you, Joaco. I love you, cousin.” Later, he explained the reason for that special dedication.

Federico Andueza’s celebration after his goal against River.

Two weeks ago my cousin decided to take his own life. It is a hard time for the whole family and those who are there in Uruguay. The celebration was for him and for the whole family. With all this tournament I couldn’t travel, I lived here with my partner, “he said in an interview with Sportscenter, the ESPN newscast.

“I had just told my mother that I was listening to music when we were going to the field and I asked him to please give me a victory. Not only did that come, but with a goal,” he added. “It was also my cousin’s birthday, her sister, and they were watching the game from Uruguay. It was very exciting,” he concluded.

Later, more relaxed, he left a few words about the intersection he had with Nicholas of the Cross, another of the Uruguayans who were on the field. “They just fouled him on the edge of the area, but I told him ‘don’t be a shit and hit him yourself’. Juanfer (Quintero) ended up hitting him, heh… I have a very nice friendship with Nico, he congratulated me as I did I did after the last game in Junín. That’s the beauty of football, friendships, “he said, laughing.

The emerged from Montevideo Wandererswith remarkable fortitude, referred to the meaning of the victory of the last weekend at the Monumental for a team that is fighting not to be relegated, but whose performances of this type excite him to dream higher. “It was very important for the rival, the best in Argentina I think. We are prepared for this, to play on any court and it was shown that we have barbaric courage”expressed in the post-match interview.

With these three points, those from Junín were on the verge of entering the qualifying zone for the Copa Sudamericana. They are, with 35 points in the Annual Table, tied with Huracán and Unión, the last one that would be entering, all of them two units away from Atlético Tucumán and four from Newells and Defensa y Justicia. The next date, Friday at 9:30 p.m., they will receive Lanús in search of continuing with the raising.
