Orlegi Sports has on the table a very ambitious blueprint to modernize Mareo and thus turn it into an “elite” sports city. As revealed exclusively by LA NUEVA ESPAÑA, the group of Alejandro Irarragorri prepares a comprehensive reform of the current facilities of the rojiblanca football school. Although the sketch is not yet final, there are still a few months to finalize all the ideas, they do include what will be the main lines of the Orlegi Sports plan in the medium and long term at Sporting, where Mareo will play a crucial role. The star project will be precisely the construction of a residence that can house the young talents of the base, but that also allows reaching other future promises from the country, and even from abroad.
That, revealed by this newspaper, would be the most powerful project within this ambitious plan that Alejandro Irarragorri’s group has to take the current Mareo equipment to another level, and that it is willing to make a huge investment, millionaire, pulling CVC funds earmarked for infrastructure improvement. Orlegi has the approval of the City Council to carry out this modernization of Mareo, which is (and will continue to be) municipal property.
Because the new owners believe that to optimize the use of Mareo and squeeze all its potential (111,700 square meters) a total reform is needed; a change from top to bottom of the facilities, improving all the infrastructures, including the offices, the fields (and their surroundings, creating stands) or the first team building, to make Mareo a high-performance sports center. In Mexico, Orlegi Sports finalizes the works of The academy, a world-class sports city, where it has invested 15 million euros and which was designed by the architectural firm Sordo Madaleno. The pharaonic project built on seven hectares of land consisting of six fields (4 natural and 2 artificial), with science facilities applied to sports and specialized administrative offices so that professionals in these areas can undertake their duties at the highest level.
In other words, the facilities of The Academy seek excellence in all their infrastructures so that Orlegi Sporting professionals (doctors, physical trainers, technicians, but also executives and financiers) can carry out their work with the best weapons. This great work, very close to being finished, already in its final phase, is at the forefront as far as sports centers are concerned, and they consider in Liga MX that it will be a national reference and an example for the future.
It also has its own residence, a “Club House”, which can accommodate more than fifty people at the same time, with its own dining rooms and services. Precisely the creation of the residence has a huge importance for the Orlegi Sports model, which seeks to provide the best possible context for its promises and give them the best tools to create future values, thinking that they will apply in the creation of their own residence in Mareo. Although there will surely be some differences in the final project, due to the different environments and demands of the two cultures and countries, the Atlas Academy that is being finished off in the municipality of Zapopan serves as an example of what Alejandro Irarragorri’s group intends to do in Dizziness.
The reform of Mareo, with a view to the World Cup
The integral work of the Mareo Football School fits into the candidacy of El Molinón as one of the venues for the 2030 World Cup. Although it is not the reason for the project, which responds exclusively to the action model that Orlegi Sports has in its clubs , the improvement of the current rojiblancas facilities could serve so that in the future it can be presented as a base camp for the headquarters of national teams, training sessions, or the permanent headquarters of a national team.
