The Czech 18 played in Canada for the first time. After defeating the Swedes, he will play for bronze

The Czech hockey team lost 2:6 to Sweden in the semi-finals of the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Red Deer, Canada, and after their first defeat at the tournament, they will play for third place against Finland, who lost to Canada 1:4. The match starts on Saturday from eight o’clock in the evening CET. The Canadians will face Sweden for the overall victory.

The Czechs reached the top four at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup for the first time since 2017, after dominating the main group with wins over Finland (4:3 after separate raids), Germany (7:2) and the USA (3:1). Five years ago in Břeclav, they only lost to Canada in the final. They finished fifth in 2018 and 2019, then the tournament was not held due to the coronavirus pandemic, and last year they took sixth place.

In Red Deer, the Czech team got into a power play for 116 seconds after Axel Sandin-Pellikka and Tom Willander were sent off for throwing the puck into the audience in the 8th minute, but the Swedes resisted and took the lead at 17:51. Sandin-Pellikka’s throw from the blue line was headed in front of Michael Hrabal by Zeb Forsfjäll.

In the 24th minute, Noel Nordh increased the lead of the Northerners. At 32:56, Jakub Petr’s team saw a reduction, after Dominik Badinka’s shot, Jakub Štancl beat Noah Erliden from the stop. however, Noah Dower Nilsson returned the two-goal advantage to the Swedes 74 seconds before the end of the second half.

In the 46th minute, Jiří Felcman made contact again with the Czech selection, who ran away in his own weakness during a Jakub Dvořák penalty and beat Erliden twice. The Swedes took a definitive step into the final three minutes and 16 seconds before the end when Otto Stenberg scored from the left side. On the power play, Wille Johansson made his way into the empty net and four seconds before the final siren, Stenberg scored his second of the game.
