Tamberi European champion in the high jump

A year after sharing Olympic gold with Qatari Mutaz Essa Barshim, the Italian won the European title.

Italian Gianmarco Tamberi was crowned European high jump champion on Thursday in Munich, a year after sharing Olympic gold with Qatari Mutaz Essa Barshim.

The 30-year-old Italian athlete won by clearing 2.30m ahead of the German Tobias Potye and the Ukrainian Andriy Protsenko, who failed at this height. The Italian jumper, who remained at the foot of the podium at the World Championships a month ago in the United States, had already won European gold in 2016.

The French Sébastien Micheau did not pass any bar: he had three failures at his entry bar in the competition at 2.18 m.
