The Polish Iga Swiatek, number one in the world, began the US Open on Tuesday with a solid victory against the Italian Jasmine Paolini (n.57) by 6-3 and 6-0 in just over an hour of play.
Swiatek, winner of six titles this season, added victory number 51 of her extraordinary year and enters this tournament determined to make history and become the first Pole to reach beyond the quarterfinals in the Open era.
