SK “Atvars” rowing slalom athletes spend the weekend competing in the Gauja rapids in Valmiera

Nine rowing slalom clubs from all over Latvia and three rowing slalom clubs from Estonia came to the competition, representatives of SK “Atvars” inform.

The Liepāja team already started training in Valmiera in the middle of the week, where they had a great opportunity to use the elements of rowing slalom technique they had just learned in the Czech training camp and hone these skills in the treacherous rapids of Gauja.

In this rowing slalom competition, SK “Atvars” was represented only by those young people who have sufficient experience and skills in fast waters.

On Saturday, two 3rd places were won in MK1 (kayak, men) boat class – U14 Sergejs Zenkovs and U16 Matins Macijauskas. On the other hand, Dāvis Ziemel managed to win the U18-Junior Open 1st place in the overall youth ranking and 3rd place in the absolute overall ranking.

In the women’s single seater kayak (WK1) competition, the young ladies of SK “Atvars” continue to fight fiercely in the adult competition.

In the WK1 women’s competition, Elizabeth Kurvina managed to win 1st place in the U18-Junior Open overall youth ranking, but she won 2nd place in the absolute overall ranking, losing to Estonian slalomist Kersti Parnamaga.

In the overall standings, the representative of SK “Atvars” Annija Glezer, who won bronze in the final race, climbed to the podium. Also in the U14 age group, Laura Žodziņa managed to win bronze.

On Sunday, the athletes of SK “Atvars” were again ready to fight for victories both in their age groups and in the overall youth ranking, and to win the Gauja Cup.

In the MK1 (kayak, men) boat class, hard work in training brought victories to younger participants. The youngest member of SK “Atvars”, Pauls Puļķis, won 2nd place in the U10 age group. Kārlis Dūkups won 3rd place in his U12 age group.

In the WK1 women’s competition, Elizabete Kurvina won 1st place in the U18-Junior Open youth overall ranking and this time also 1st place in the absolute overall ranking, leaving behind the main rival from the previous day from Estonia.

Eliza Šefere, a member of the Elizabete team, won the 3rd place in the overall ranking of the Gauja Cup. In the U14 age group, Laura Žodziņa was convincing and was able to win 3rd place again.
