Neighbors and friends of Sigueruelo, a small Segovian town of less than thirty inhabitants belonging to Santo Tomé del Puerto, have resumed their traditional popular summer landowners to preserve their heritage and reach “where sometimes the Public Administration cannot do it,” he says. the organization.

This year’s farmer is part of the events organized by the Neighborhood Association of Sigueruelo in two cultural weekends -the previous one took place at the end of July- in which championships of badminton, table tennis, soccer, catan, brisca or tute; in addition to children’s cinema, gymnasiums or popular snacks.

For the landowner, the Santo Tomé del Puerto City Council has paid for the materials and ingredients for the later paella made by the residents themselves and which all the participants have tasted afterwards together.

Leisure alternatives

“These weekends of culture and leisure have meant a reunion between many neighbors after the complicated times we have lived through,” they underline in the association, whose board of directors works intensely on new options in which to invest free time outdoors in the headquarters so that the usual inhabitants and those who come in a more isolated way share pleasant moments. For example, in the absence of a bar, closed a few years ago, now the card games since this summer take place at the headquarters of the neighborhood collective.

There is also a cinema for children, board games… and even a Scalextric track. “A town without life means that the new generations prefer to spend their free time in other places,” explains the president of the Neighborhood Association of Sigueruelo, Antonio Moreno.

For more than a decade, the popular landowners have marked the town’s summer – now enriched with many more activities – and numerous improvements have been made thanks to the good will of the residents. The reconstruction of the historic colt, picnic tables at the Fuente Honda, retaining walls for snow, construction of a public barbecue, the El Chorrillo laundry are some of the works that have been carried out since 2008.
