IBlack limousines drove up at short intervals, from which well-known and famous people got out, and tension shimmered in the warm evening air. That’s what it feels like, that’s what it sounds like when the US Open is played for the titles on the last tournament weekend; when the facility is flooded with spectators who can hardly wait for the big game.
Only on this first evening there was no game for the title on the program, but perhaps the last of a career. Was it about who would win this game, or more importantly, to give an ovation to the woman who was about to say goodbye?
