Selenia Pla wins two golds and one silver at the Parabadminton National

Selenia Pla, an athlete from the Xàtiva Badminton Club, won two gold medals and one silver in the third round of the National Parabadminton Circuit, disputed last weekend in Toledo. Pla, who participated in three events: women’s singles, mixed and inclusive doubles, achieved magnificent results, reaching the podium in all three events.

In women’s singlesSelenia hung her plata after losing in the final of the SL4 and SU5 categories against Cristina Sánchez de Lechina from Granada. The Setabense lost in the first set by a tight 21-18 and in the second, despite the effort, she could not impose her game either, falling 21-12.

Things went better for him mixed doubles SL4-SU5, where the Setabense teamed up with Pablo Serrano, from CB Astures, and won the gold after beating Andalusians Iván Segura and Cristina Sánchez in the final by a double 21-7. The competition closed with the inclusive test, in which Pla teamed up with Miguel Ángel Polo, from CB Drop Toledo, and together they won the gold medal after winning 21-16 and 21-18 in the decisive match against José Luis Pliego and Iván Segura. The one from Xàtiva and his partner made it through the group stage, finishing first in group B and that first place led them to play in the final draw. In the semifinals they dropped Jorge López and David Serrano 21-19 and 22-20 the victory took them to the final, where they also won, achieving gold.

This third round of the National Circuit brought together 19 participants in Toledo. The appointment closed an intense sports week in the Castilian-La Mancha town, where throughout the week the Integration and Parabadminton Days, in which Selenia Pla participated, and which were led by technicians from the parabadminton area of ​​the Spanish Badminton Federation, Miguel Ángel Polo and Dina Abouzeid, among others. The sessions included training sessions to deal with technical and tactical aspects, and were attended by a group of coaches who were in Madrid doing the Level II National Coach Course.

In addition, also in Toledo took place the Training in Parabadminton, Classification and Inclusion, in which the Badminton Xàtiva technician Mª José Mompó participated. The Setabense attended this training for the second year with the aim of expanding and deepening the para badminton modality.

Upcoming competitions

On the other hand, the Xàtiva Badminton Club will be present at the next Senior European Championship, which starts next Sunday in Ljubljana (Slovenia) and runs until August 13. In this European tournament, Mª José Mompó will compete, in the +35 category, who will play the women’s doubles event, together with Silvia Rueda, and mixed doubles, with David Hernansanz; and Carlos Martínez, who will compete in the category of over 70 years, in the men’s singles and men’s doubles, along with the Danish Niels Jorgen Madsen. The European Senior Championships 2022, which will take place in the Slovenian capital, will bring together some 1,081 athletes from all over the European continent, who will fight to be proclaimed the best athletes in the senior category in each of the events. The two Setabenses will begin the competition next Monday, at the Dvorana Center Stozice.
