German goalkeeper with homophobic derailment

Scandal in Switzerland…

Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated by the Swiss Football League (SFL) against ex-Leipzig goalkeeper Marius Müller (29), now under contract with FC Luzern. The reason: a homophobic statement.

After the defeat of his Lucerne club at FC St. Gallen (1: 4), he used the word “gay” derogatory. He wanted to describe the defensive behavior of his front men, who had turned away instead of going into the ball.

The league statement on Monday reads: “The disciplinary judge in game operations in the Swiss Football League opened proceedings against the FC goalkeeper based on the statements made in a TV interview last Saturday after the defeat against FC St. Gallen (4-1). Lucerne, Marius Muller. No further information will be disclosed until the publication of any verdict.”

FC Luzern published an apology on Twitter: “This statement does not correspond to the values lived by the club or its fans. FC Luzern is clearly committed to an open and diverse society and will once again clearly address this within the team.”

Müller apologized on Instagram for his verbal mistake. Müller: “My statement was stupid and completely misplaced. It reflects neither my attitude nor my values, which I live every day.”
