The legendary coach of the Cuban national women’s judo team, Ronaldo Veitía, is hospitalized and in serious condition, after suffering a cardiovascular accident about a week ago during his stay in the Spanish province of Alicante. There he remains in an intensive care unit.

The trainer whose resume highlights the training of almost all of the main glories of female judo on the Island, spent several days in a coma, aided by an artificial respirator and without responding to stimuli from the doctors who treat him.

However, he has achieved an improvement in his state of health in recent days, as confirmed on his Facebook wall by one of his most outstanding students, who reproduced the medical part of the weekend, in which the exit of the Professor Veitía’s comma.

“He just gave the devil an ippon. He woke up, clasps his hands and little tears of joy run through his eyes when we put an audio on the videos that we have downloaded about the work he did in judo with his athletes, technical group and Cuban people, ”said the message.

This Tuesday, for her part, the athlete herself let it be known that Veitía was better, without a fever and with more stable blood sugar levels, for which it is planned to remove the intubation to maintain her condition in the coming 24 or 48 hours. .

Ronaldo Veitía is one of the paradigmatic figures of this discipline in the world, awarded both in Cuba and abroad for his numerous achievements. These days, there are not a few messages of support that have reached him from the champions he trained, as well as from the Cuban people in general.
