The Red Dragons have not had to tire of winning their first European Championship qualifier. Against the Faroe Islands it was 3-0 after just over an hour of play. The set positions speak for themselves: 25-7, 25-15 and 25-9.
From the first run it became clear that the Belgians were going to have an easy evening against the Faroe Islands, anything but a volleyball nation.
The spectators who showed up did not really get their money’s worth, certainly not in the first and third set. Those were won by the Dragons 25-7 and 25-9.
In between, the Faroe Islands had a temporary flare-up, but they could never really alarm the Belgians: 25-15.
After just over an hour of play, the 3-0 was already on the board. “Unseen”, commentator Marc Willems summed it up. The next two duels against Estonia will undoubtedly be different.
Rousseaux: “Difficult matches to play”
Of course, Tomas Rousseaux could not draw too many conclusions after the simple victory of the Dragons. “I haven’t played many games against opponents of this level,” was his first reaction.
“Still, those are not easy matches because you are simply expected to finish quickly. You can do more wrong than good in such matches. It was very important to stay focused, because qualification can depend on 1 point.”
With his 28 springs, Rousseaux is the oldest on the Belgian magazine. Now the Dragons have to go to Estonia. “A difficult task, but I feel a lot of energy. We go there with a positive naivety.”
