Augsburg goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz made a splendid save in Leverkusen, but was annoyed. The Pole feels portrayed too poorly – and has to fight for his place.

Rafal Gikiewicz is able to remove one of the notes he has stuck to his fridge. The FC Augsburg goalkeeper visualizes his goals several times a day: games he doesn’t concede, points he wants to win – he writes them down. After the second matchday of the 2022/23 season, he can book his first win: It was thanks to the goalkeeper that FC Augsburg won against Leverkusen for the first time in their twelfth year in the Bundesliga and on their 23rd attempt, even away from home.

Gikiewicz towered in the 2-1 win. But afterwards the 34-year-old Pole was extremely bad-tempered. He doesn’t see his capabilities properly portrayed by the media. They had criticized him after the first day of the game, especially his mistake in a free kick by Vincenzo Grifo from Freiburg in the 4-0 defeat. And during the week it was also reported that FC Augsburg was looking for a new goalkeeper. Finn Dahmen, 24 years old and second man at FSV Mainz 05, was named.
