On Sunday evening, 19,443 fans attended Greece’s victory over Belgium (85-68), which is a new attendance record in the context of qualifying for the World Cup in the European zone.
At a sold-out OAKA Arena in Athens, 19,443 fans broke the attendance record for a World Cup European qualifier match, surpassing the 19,150 who attended last Thursday’s Serbia v Greece from the Stark Arena in Belgrade.
In front of their supporters, the Greeks obviously won against the Belgians, carried by their superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and a thunderous start to the match (28-9). The Greek Freak compiled 26 points at 11/17 on shots, 7 rebounds and 2 steals for 22 rating.
In Group I, Latvia (5-1) remains at the top of the group, ahead of Greece (4-2), which takes off with Belgium (3-3), Serbia (3-3), Turkey (2-4) and Great Britain (1-5).
