When Mauro Icardi (29) switched from Inter Milan to Paris St-Germain in the summer of 2020 for 50 million euros, many saw him as the missing piece of the puzzle to complete the already strong offensive of the top French club.
But the Argentinian striker didn’t make the big break in Paris. Moving to Ligue 1 wasn’t a step forward, it was a step back.

Icardi wasn’t even part of the squad for Paris’ 5-0 win at the start of the season at Clermont Foot. The attacker has been sorted out by new coach Christophe Galtier and is no longer allowed to train with the first team.
The coach said: “Icardi has joined the afternoon group. His absence against Clermont came with a sporting decision, purely sporting. I will downsize the group. I don’t want to work with 25 players. What are his wishes? Mauro had very little playing time, it’s important for him to get back into the swing of things. Mauro has to show his qualities. A change sometimes helps to start over.”
Italy promoted AC Monza are said to be interested in a commitment. The club from the city on the outskirts of Milan was bought four years ago by former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi (85).
Galtier also announced that they would buy a new striker. “L’Equipe” reports that the club is very interested in signing Marcus Rashford (24). The England international has one year left on his contract with Manchester United. However, the “Red Devils” are apparently not ready to let the offensive star go.
Meanwhile, the transfer of Fabian Ruiz (26) from SSC Napoli to PSG is getting closer. The central midfielder has declared his willingness to move to Paris, agreeing with the club on a five-year deal. Napoli and PSG are still negotiating, but an agreement is in sight. Keeper Keylor Navas (35) will move to Naples in return.
