Premier League – Harry Kane offers victory to Tottenham against Wolverhampton (1-0)

Tottenham Spurs are back on the road to victory! For the opening match of the third day of the Premier League, Antonio Conte’s men won by the narrowest of margins against Wolverhampton (1-0). It was Spurs home striker Harry Kane who scored with a header shortly after the hour mark from a corner. An achievement which notably allows the English international striker to become the 4th top scorer in the history of the Premier League. Tottenham temporarily takes the lead in the English championship.

A complicated first period for Tottenham

After the lively draw against Chelsea last Sunday (2-2), the Spurs of the overexcited Antonio Conte were keen to take the 3 points against Wolves. However, the Wolverhampton players were the first to try their luck, on a recovery from Ruben Neves well captured by Hugo Lloris (7th). A trend that was confirmed throughout the first act, with attempts by Gonçalo Guedes (11th) and Matheus Nunes (42nd). Without a return from Eric Dier, the new Wolverhampton midfielder could have opened the scoring as Hugo Lloris had to desert his goal after a clumsy deflection from defender Davinson Sanchez. Spurs’ first shot came just before the break, with a header from Harry Kane just out of the goalkeeper (45th).

Kane, record and deliverance

Harry Kane finally delivered his team in the 65th minute, thanks to a corner from Heung-Min Son cleverly deflected at the near post by newcomer Ivan Perišić (1-0). The opportunity for the Spurs-trained striker to score his 185th goal in English football’s top flight, the most goals scored by a single player for a single club in Premier League history. The score will not move, despite a dangerous free kick from Ruben Neves, who grazed the left post of Lloris (73rd). Tottenham wins its second victory in 3 days, while Wolves have still not won the slightest success this season in the league.
