Premier League – 5th day: Chelsea relapses in Southampton (2-1)

Decidedly, Chelsea can not continue at the start of the season. While we thought the Blues were well and truly launched after their victory against Leicester (2-1), they once again fell outside, on the lawn of Southampton, during the fifth day of the Premier League ( 2-1). Still too inconsistent in collective expression and betrayed by a few individual shortcomings, Thomas Tuchel’s men were unable to keep their goal in advance, scored by Raheem Sterling. Londoners remain in the soft underbelly in the standings, and are even joined by their executioner of the evening.

United struggles but continues

This season, the Blues have decided to be on alternating current, capable of the best as well as the worst. Above all, they fail to repeat the good performances. They proved this worrying inconstancy during their stay with the Saints who, on the contrary, knew how to play with their weapons. Raheem Sterling had nevertheless allowed himself to put Chelsea on the right track, with composure, after a good pass from Mason Mount badly managed by the defense (0-1, 23rd). This opening of the score came to reward the slight increase in speed of the visitors, who were very quickly overtaken by their demons of the moment.

Chelsea can’t do it

On an avoidable corner, César Azpilicueta badly averted the danger, and it was Roméo Lavia who took advantage of it by opening his foot perfectly to adjust Édouard Mendy (1-1, 28th). It was well paid for Southampton at this point in the game, but Chelsea looked for it. Moreover, the London club plunged. After a good collective movement, Romain Perraud made the right choice by serving Adam Armstrong, forgotten at the penalty spot (1-3, 45th + 1).

And without a rescue on his line from Marc Cucurella against Mohamed Elyounoussi (53rd), the addition would have been much saltier for the Blues who are completely missing their start. The balance sheet is already heavy: Arsenal could relegate them to eight points after only five days. Speaking of the top of the table, the surprising Brighton side missed the chance to fall asleep in the leader’s suit. The Seagulls, who had been undefeated for nine league days, fell on Fulham’s lawn (2-1).

The indestructible Aleksandar Mitrovic (48th) lit the fuse, while Lewis Dunk (55th) sealed Brighton, who would have liked to come back after the reduction of the penalty score from Alexis Mac Allister (60th). On the lawn of Crystal Palace, we will remember the sublime strike of Wilfried Zaha (59th), possible future recruit of Chelsea who could not prevent the equalizer of Brentford, signed Yoane Wissa (88th). There was no winner either between Leeds and Everton (1-1). Luis Sinisterra (55th) responded to the opener of Anthony Gordon (17th), who would have liked to release the Toffees, still looking for a first success.
