The 36-year-old returned a par-good 72 shot card, which put him back one spot. The day before, he had experienced an incredible round of 63 (-9), which had positioned him advantageously for the future.

Thursday, Fortin-Simard had done as well as the leader in Victoriaville, the American Jake Scott. After scores of 66 and 63, the Ohio native followed up with another 66 (-6) to keep the lead at -21, eight points ahead of Quebecer and Ontarian Lee Curry.

Toronto’s Drew Nesbitt separates it all with a total of 199 (-17) after 54 holes.

Also in the top 10 are Yohann Benson of Pincourt and Max Gilbert of Saint-Georges. Very consistent, the two golfers respectively shot 68 (-4) and 69 (-3) on Saturday to position themselves in seventh place at -11.

Only one Quebec professional has won the Canada Cup in the past. This is the adopted Montrealer Beon Yeong Lee, in 2017.

Two amateurs are still in the running for this tournament, Montarvillois Brandon Rattray (56e-1) and Victoriavillois Francis Rouiller (67e, +2). The latter won the amateur section three times.
