Otter bid farewell to Burnley. I could not accept such an offer, he explained

Football representative Matěj Vydra said goodbye to Burnley on his Instagram, where his contract expired after last season and relegation to the second English league. According to the 30-year-old striker, he received a single contract extension offer from the club, which he could not accept.

Vydra moved to Burnley four years ago from Derby as the best gunner in the second division, but he struggled with shooting at the “Clarets”. The offensive all-rounder scored only 12 goals in 97 competitive games and did not have a fixed place in the starting line-up.

In the past year, the Chotěbor native was troubled by health problems. In January, he underwent surgery for an inguinal hernia, in March he injured his elbow, and at the end of April he tore the cruciate ligament in his knee again.

In the Premier League, he managed 22 matches, in which he recorded two goals and three assists. He is currently recovering from surgery.

“I would like to say goodbye to the wonderful fans who supported me during my time at Burnley. I am happy that I could experience the club’s family atmosphere, excellent teammates and excellent care from the doctors and physiotherapists who helped me with my injury,” Vydra wrote.

“I did my best to fulfill my potential, I wasn’t afraid to risk injury, even when my contract was ending. That’s just how I am, I wanted to help the club at all costs,” added the former player of Jihlava, Ostrava, Udine and Watford.

He didn’t feel much interest from Burnley, which was coached by former Belgian international Vincent Kompany in the summer. “Negotiations with the club were minimal. I received one offer that I could not accept. I wish the club and the fans a great season and good luck,” said Vydra.

“Yesterday I saw my great surgeon, Andy Williams, who was very happy with my recovery. It’s going better than expected and I’ve been told I’ll be back on the pitch soon,” added the footballer with 46 caps and seven goals.
