Recruited by Olympique de Marseille in January 2022, central defender Samuel Gigot (28 years old, 3 games in L1 this season) had been the subject in the wake of a six-month loan to his club from origin, Spartak Moscow. In March, following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, an early arrival on the Canebière was mentioned, but the Frenchman finally chose to end the season in Russia. A choice justified by the Phocaean this Tuesday at a press conference.

“We were a lot of foreigners, we were all able to stay together. The Russians on the team were very nice to us. It was a special situation, admitted the native of Avignon. The first three weeks, we didn’t really know whether to stay or leave. We all made the choice together to stay for the athlete. We are football players, we don’t play politics.”

An episode that now belongs to the past for Gigot, who joined OM this summer and immediately won a starting status.
