Fortitudo Pallacanestro is pleased to announce the agreement with the athlete Marcus Thornton. Born in Upper Marlboro (Maryland) on February 9, 1993, guard of 194 cm, Thornton grew up basketball (four years 2011/15) in William & Mary College, Virginia. In the summer of 2015, the prestigious call to the NBA Draft materializes for Marcus, with the choice number 45 by the Boston Celtics. After a 2015/16 season alternating between Australia and the D-League, Thornton arrives in the Italian Serie A, wearing the Pesaro shirt in the 2016/17 vintage and traveling at 13.5 points per game. Subsequently, Marcus spent another season in the D-League (in Cleveland) at 19 points on average, before moving back to Europe (two-year period 2018/20) between Turkey and France. In the 2021/21 season, Thornton arrived in the German Bundesliga, maintaining an average of 13.8 points and 4.2 assists per game with the Niners Chemnitz shirt (scoring 21 against Bayern Munich and 23 against Bamberg). In the last competitive season, Marcus plays with the Bayreuth shirt, maintaining an average of 12.5 points per game in the Bundesliga and 14.9 points per game (in addition to 3.5 assists) in the FIBA Europe Cup, still collecting substantial spoils against Alba Berlin, Bamberg and Bayern Munich. A player accustomed to competing in the major leagues of many prestigious European championships, Thornton did not hesitate for a moment in answering the call from Fortitudo in the affirmative, even if he was involved in the A2 series.
