As expected, Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic is absent from the tennis tournament in Montreal, Canada. The Serb is not allowed to enter the country because of his lack of vaccination against the corona virus. The 21-time Grand Slam tournament winner withdrew his participation. The organizers announced this four days before the start of the tournament.

Tennis magazine Raquet commented: “I don’t know why this guy (Djokovic) keeps signing up for tournaments hoping they’ll change the rules for him.”

This comment called Jelena Djokovic on the scene. The tennis giant’s wife, who was unwilling to vaccinate, countered on Twitter. “Hello! Based on tennis rules and ranking – Novak’s entry into the tournament was automatic. So what’s the logic behind your tweet?” Jelena Djokovic also had some pointed advice for the editors: “Assuming that you are a tennis magazine, maybe you should focus on the coming weeks. Be what you should be. A tennis magazine that writes about tennis .”

“Raquet”: Hopefully Djokovic will soon follow the rules

“Raquet” then assured Jelena Djokovic: “We would love it, Djokovic could play – hopefully he decides to play by the rules.”

But these also threaten Djokovic’s start at the US Open (August 29 to September 11), who had to leave the Australian Open in January 2022 by court decision without having achieved anything before triumphing for the seventh time in Wimbledon six months later impede. Because the USA also requires proof of vaccination for entry. Djokovic has already asked US President Joe Biden for an entry permit.

Novak Djokovic registered for the US Open

Djokovic is still on the entry list for the final Grand Slam tournament of the year. However, the organizers have emphasized that they respect the US entry regulations regarding the corona virus.

With a few exceptions, vaccination against the corona virus is still a prerequisite for entering the country. After his Wimbledon win, Djokovic reiterated that he had no plans to be vaccinated against the virus and was hoping for an exemption.
