Neighbors criticize that the Youth Pavilion of Córdoba becomes “an abusive business of the cult of the shape of the body”

The Guadalquivir Neighborhood Association criticizes that in the conditions of use of the Youth Pavilion, the multi-sport court disappears for futsal, handball, basketball, volleyball, badminton and all the sports that can be practiced on a court of these characteristics, with which, “There is no team sport, except swimming and paddle tennis” in the project. The plan of uses, however, does contemplate the construction of a macro-gym, a swimming pool or two paddle tennis courts on the roof, so they consider that the project could become “an abusive business of the cult of the body shape“.

From the association they have reported that, given this situation, the neighbors have worked on a project that, “without being alternative, reflected the proposals that were raised” at a meeting held in February with the neighbors. Therefore, together with G2 Arquitectos, they developed a project proposal which was finally raised by the Guadalquivir Neighborhood Association of Campo de la Verdad and Fray Albino al Imdeco, who did not allow the modification of the municipal project.

With all this, the neighbors then launched seven proposals during the publicity period of said project to present allegations, of which the City Council only accepted three of them: the use of an energy efficiency system, the efficient and comprehensive bodybuilding equipment and the use of the statues with an image treatment egalitarian man – woman. However, the association expects Imdeco to reply in writing to these allegations before September.

The neighbors proposal

The residents of the area consider that the Youth Pavilion “should be a benchmark center for the enjoyment of the population”, for which they ask, among other things, for the construction of two swimming poolsone for training and non-professional competition and another for therapeutic or splashing because they consider that “there is space and natural resources to give comfort to the water in the pools”, as well as a multi-purpose sports court because “it is technically possible and socially and educationally necessary” .

Regarding energy efficiency, they propose the installation of solar panels on the roof for the production of photovoltaic electrical energy in the building and to build a cistern that stores almost 1,000 square meters of rainwater per year.

The Guadalquivir Neighborhood Association considers it necessary to have a gym area and weight machines and equivalent physical maintenance for people of all ages who want to keep fit, improve or regain mobility and that the statues and the updating of the sculptural group be done in gender equality.

Likewise, the neighbors want the exploitation model for “efficient and sustainable municipal management with citizen participation and ethical banking” and affirm that the Córdoba City Council “has money for what matters and in abundance”. Proof of this, they say, is the Exhibition, Fair and Convention Center of Córdoba, which will be municipally managed, while “for the Southern District there is no money for the indoor pool to be managed by the public.”

On July 25, the Municipal Sports Institute of Córdoba (Imdeco) definitively approved, in the governing council held that day, the feasibility study of the public works concession contract for the construction of the sports facilities of the Youth Pavilionafter the end of the term of allegations, which means “taking one more step in the bidding process” of the venue.
