Napoli only buys African players who refuse to play Africa Cup | Foreign football

During the last edition of the Africa Cup, Napoli could not count on several basic players.

Among them are Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly (ex-Genk), who moved to Chelsea this summer, and Cameroonian midfielder Frank Zambo-Anguissa.

The fact that clubs have to give up their African players for the national selections during the season is clearly hard on Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

“Shut up about African footballers. I wish them the best, but either they waive their participation in the AfriKa Cup with a signed document or they are never available,” he said on Tuesday during a broadcast on the economic website Wall Street Italia.

“We are the idiots who pay the salaries to make them play for others.”

One of the big stars of Napoli, qualified for the Champions League, is the Nigerian international Victor Osimhen (ex-Charleroi). The striker was not there at the Africa Cup due to an injury.

Players’ clubs and employers are required by FIFA regulations to release their internationals during international matches.
