The facilities were officially inaugurated this Tuesday, August 23, 2022 during a ceremony which took place with great fanfare, in the presence of Mohamed Bamba, the donor, his parents, the president of the Ivorian Basketball Federation (FIBB) Mahama Coulibaly and the Elephants basketball players who face the D-Tigers this Friday August 26 during the 4th window of the 2023 World Cup Qualifying.
I love my country and I want to give it back what it gave me
“I am happy to be here and to see all these children. I want to help my country, inspire children and produce more talents like me, this is how we can help Africa. Everything is possible. I love my country and I want to give it back what it has given me,” rejoiced Mo Bamba in a few words. The 24-year-old pivot playing at Magic Orlando, in the NBA, also donated shoes to the Federation.
As for Mahama Coulibaly, president of the FIBB since January 25, 2020, he keeps his promise to make the practice of basketball accessible in the municipalities and from an early age.
“It’s a relief and a pride. We are all the more proud that Abobo had no land for young people. Abobo has given us talent and we must have local basketball there. Thanks to the work of Mo combined with the federal will, we are there. With sport, we will fight against many scourges in the municipalities”,
Bamba will join the Elephants
Born in New York to Ivorian parents, Bamba said he was happy to return to his country of origin to reunite with his family and his home. Long asked by the FIBB to join the national team, he agreed to represent the Ivorian colors and expressed his impatience in this regard. It is a dream to represent the country. I can’t wait to join the national team.
The Elephants will start the 4th window of the 2023 World Cup qualifiers against the Nigerian team this Friday August 26 at the Palais des Sports in Treichville. The list of 12 selected players will be made public this Wednesday, August 24.
