Mexicans stood out in National Table Tennis – El Sol de Toluca

The table tennis delegation that represented the State of Mexico during the National Championship held in Mexico City, garnered a total of eight medals, of which five were silver and three bronze.

The athletes showed the progress of the work in each game, where they faced tough rivals for what were intense duels, in addition, a good parameter is obtained for the next commitments of the season.

Regarding the results, Cristina Gómez and Fernanda Caballero climbed on the podium; During the last day of competition they defeated high-level opponents in a very close semifinal that took the match to five sets and installed Cristina in the final where she won silver.

The experienced Brenda García played the mixed doubles final alongside Óscar Meléndez who defeated the Mexico City representative, who gave the pass to play the final against Hidalgo’s team.

The meeting was very disputed, both representatives did not reserve anything in the search to add points, however in the end it was Hidalgo who showed the best level and put the score in favor 3-2 to keep the first place.

Cristina Gómez and Brenda García played their third doubles final against Hidalgo, however it was not enough and they succumbed in four sets to win another silver medal.

Roberto Rodríguez had an outstanding performance on his first day of activities and little by little he made his way against rivals who had been better placed than him, this allowed him to get into the fight for the medals and although the decisive match was intense it only reached him to get third place.

While the also experienced Fernando Itzcowich had to face high-level rivals, he nonetheless won a bronze medal to complete the eight total medals of the Mexican delegation.

The team was always advised and supported by Edgar Madrigal, coach of this sport at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico and president of the state association, so the objectives were achieved and now they will concentrate on facing the rest of the events with good dividends. of the 2022 season.
