Marko saw Perez waste pole: “Checo threw it away in the second sector”

The Red Bull Racing team is looking forward to this afternoon’s Belgian Grand Prix with great confidence. Max Verstappen was the fastest in qualifying yesterday but will start from fifteenth position due to an engine penalty. Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez starts the race in second and must therefore bring success to his team.

Red Bull had actually expected more from Perez’s qualifying. After all, the Mexican will not start at the front this afternoon, but as second. Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz is next to him on the front row and Perez must therefore set his sights on a good start. Everyone expects a lot from the impressive Red Bulls and all eyes are on Perez.

Throw away

Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko had also hoped for more from Perez. The Austrian advisor was disappointed with the result but does believe in a victory for Perez. Speaking to his compatriots from ServusTV, Marko said: “We had a much higher top speed than Ferrari. However, Checo threw it away in the second sector. In the first sector, despite Ferrari’s slipstream, he was clearly faster.”

To win

But Marko isn’t too worried about today’s race. The Austrian sees that the difference with the competition from Ferrari and Mercedes is quite significant. Marko therefore thinks that Perez can take his second win of the season today: “He can certainly win. We expected Mercedes to do better here, Ferrari performs as usual at the same level as we do.”
