Maccabi Haifa had won the first leg against Red Star Belgrade, but in the typical Serbian cauldron, the home team felt confident enough to put it right. And that happened: 2-0 seemed to be the halftime score.
But then it turned: Maccabi Haifa was awarded a penalty, which was first saved by goalkeeper Borjan (who will play with Canada against Belgium in the World Cup), but in the spur of that phase the brown soap suddenly dripped from his gloves on a seemingly harmless long shot from Sundgren.
That 2-1 remained on the board for the entire 2nd half and so extra time was approaching. But again things went wrong for Red Star Belgrade in the final phase. A free kick was deflected into his own goal by defender Pavkov.
A dramatic evening for the Serbs, but a memorable performance for the Israelis.
