Seventeen-year-old tennis player Linda Fruhvirtová takes a successful debut in the main competition at the US Open as great satisfaction and encouragement for further work.

After successfully qualifying in the first round, the native of Prague defeated the Chinese Wang Sin-yü 6:3, 6:4, confirming her potential and in the next stage she will face the former world number one Garbiňa Muguruza. She is supported from a distance by her two-year-younger sister, Brenda, who recently won her sixth ITF tournament and is on a 20-game winning streak.

“We are in contact a lot. I am very happy that she is doing well and beating her opponents. I believe that in a year we will both be playing here. I think she has outgrown the level of the tournaments she has played in so far and she could face top opponents Fruhvirtová told Czech journalists. “It’s great to have a sister who does the same sport. We go through the same situations. We understand each other and are best friends. I miss it when we’re each on a different continent. At the same time, I believe we’ll be riding together soon. I’m very proud of her. She deserves everything he’s winning now,” she added.

The 167th player in the world also confirmed her talent in New York. At the US Open, she is one of the youngest players in the main competition, she did not lose a set against Wang Sin-Jü and she is pushing her lifetime best. “It’s something amazing. It’s because of matches like this that we work so hard. I’m happy that I managed another match after qualifying,” said Fruhvirtová. “I had to be strong in my head. It was my first match at a Grand Slam, and I saw a chance that I could go on. I concentrated on things that I can influence and go my way,” said the seventeen-year-old tennis player.

He has the combativeness and will to strive for every ball since childhood. “As a child, I played mini-tennis even against boys. I remember the score 9:10, 10:9. I thank my parents for the upbringing, thanks to which I will not miss anything. I know that nothing in life is free. There are no cakes without work,” said Fruhvirtová.

Father Hynek also accompanies the talented Czech in New York. According to him, the main thing is that both sisters are in good health. “We take it all realistically and as a partial success on a long journey, the end of which is not yet in sight. For us as parents, the main thing is that the children are healthy, that they enjoy tennis and that they are happy,” said Hynek Fruhvirt. His daughter is also helped by manager Marijn Bal, who also represents Petra Kvitová.

In New York, Fruhvirtová managed to visit a musical with the music of Michael Jackson in addition to the tennis matches. “I like it here and I play well here. New York is a fascinating city that has a charm. I like how life is constantly going on here,” noted Fruhvirtová.

In the next round, the Czech player will try to fight for an even bigger sensation. She will challenge former world number one and two-time Grand Slam champion Muguruza. “I will definitely look at her game so that I am not surprised that she sews it into me or just spins. But mainly I look at myself and my performance. In any case, I can’t wait to face the Grand Slam champion,” added Fruhvirtová.
