Latvian basketball players lose to Greece at the beginning of the European U-18 Championship

The Latvian U-18 women’s basketball team started the European U-18 Championship in Greece with a loss on Saturday. The Latvian national team under the leadership of coach Aigars Nerips lost to the home team, the Greeks, with 64:75 (11:22, 21:18, 17:17, 15:18).

Raina Tomašicka stood out for Latvia with 23 points and six rebounds, while Valerija Baranovska collected 11 points.

Sofia Kelemeni had 21 points and six rebounds for the home team, while Georgija Damulaki added 17 points and nine rebounds and assists.

During the preparation, the Latvian U18 team played test matches with the juniors of Ukraine (62:63), Estonia (68:39 and 70:64), France (55:86), Italy (51:68) and Lithuania (56:61, 54: 61 and 51:72).

In the A division tournament of the European U-18 Championship in Iraklia, the opponents of the Latvian team in the B group tournament will also be Belgian and Czech teams.

In the round of 16 on August 10, they will have to fight against one of the teams from group A (Spain, Italy, Turkey or Poland).
