Klopp flies into a rage: “This only goes in one direction, against the wall”

Jurgen Klopp has long maintained a crusade against the world football calendar. The Liverpool coach sees how tournaments are stretched and lengthened, new ones are created and players are subjected to an endless burden, at the risk that in most cases the clubs will pay for it. Players who are injured, fatigued or who leave to play with their national teams in the middle of the season and miss games with their teams. “There is only one direction this is going and that is against the wall. There is no one who really speaks for the players. When talking about the lack of breaks for players, Aleksander Ceferin comes out of a corner and makes a controversial statement that other people have to work much harder. I know, Mr. Ceferin doesn’t have to tell me that,” Klopp explained in an interview on Kicker.

Klopp demands respect for the footballers, they are the protagonists of everything and they are not counted on at all. “I don’t want to offend anyone, just to point out again that this game doesn’t work without the players and is only really enjoyable when the best players are on the field,” he said. Klopp complains that with games every three days he doesn’t have time to train. “New tournaments are always being invented. Now we are expanding the World Cup so that other teams can also participate. We’re making it bigger, amazing. If I’m the only one saying something, so be it. I don’t mind. I can’t be everyone’s friend,” he denounces.

Klopp also had words for Mané. Far from censoring the departure of one of his stars, he applauded his decision. “If that was always the case, that would be great. You I would have kept it with pleasure, but it is a free world, you should make decisions in this way: freely announce them in time, ”says the coach.

Klopp has also referred to Darwin, his replacement. He wants to take the pressure off him and the criticism for his price and invites him not to judge so soon. He says that “you can never draw conclusions after just one game. Five weeks ago, when we started preseason and he played his first preseason game, there were some people who didn’t like him.” “It’s crazy how quickly we judge people… Wow! Imagine if someone came up to us and said, ‘First day on the job, it didn’t work out. Go home, we don’t want to see you again! And by the way, you’re not going to get a second chance.’ We would all have been fired by now! Without a margin of doubt. Now everyone can see that he is a great striker. (…) he is a full-fledged player and different from the ones we had, ”he acknowledges. “He is very energetic. Physically he is very strong, and technically he is very good. That improves, obviously, with adaptation and with the confidence that you gain. You can’t ask a player to give 100% right away, you have to adapt and evolve. That’s what we’ve done with it,” he sums up.
