Julius Randle will not leave the Knicks

Although his name has appeared in certain recent rumors, everything indicates that Julius Randle will not move from the Knicks. According to Fred Katz, a journalist for The Athletic, the extension of 117 million in four seasons that enters into force this year has reduced the interest that the player could arouse in the market, which makes it almost impossible to reach an agreement that implies his departure. Although from New York they could be interested in negotiating for him, everything indicates that this contract would force them to include at least a first round in any hypothetical transfer, something that they are not willing to do.

Randle is coming off a significantly inferior season to 20-21, in which he became an All-Star and the Most Improved Player after averaging 24.1 points, 10.2 rebounds and 6 assists per game, leading the Knicks to the playoffs and earning the aforementioned renewal. This last year, however, his numbers fell to 20.1 points and his impact on the court was noticeably less, raising doubts even among those who think that this season is not representative of his level.

If he recovers his best version, interest in him could increase before the market closes and the need to include a round could disappear, but then one might wonder if the Knicks’ desire to explore a possible transfer would still exist. As New Yorkers try to improve their roster with the possible arrival of Donovan Mitchell and another possible big move for 2023, Randle’s contract could be a hindrance to boosting the team, but for now it seems that there is no intention to promote its exit as long as its market value remains current.
