Judo safari continues, German Judo Federation eV, press release

This year, the Judo Safari of the German Judo Federation (DJB) is touring through Germany’s zoos and animal parks. Eight judo safaris have already been held. After a short summer break, it will continue on August 24th.

The first four judo safaris took place in Rostock, Münster, Wuppertal and the Lüneburg Heath. In addition to several hundred sports-loving children and young people, various media representatives were there and reported on the unusual combination of judo and animals.

The judo safari reached the federal capital Berlin via Neuwied and Göppingen. Afterwards, before the summer break, the zoo in Augsburg was visited.

The audience at Neuwied Zoo was mixed. Visitors from Belgium, Bremen, Cologne and the Ukraine took part in the judo safari and mastered the stations distributed throughout the zoo with flying colours. On the first day of summer vacation in Baden-Württemberg (July 28th), many sports-loving children and young people took part in the DJB event in the small zoo in Göppingen. Both judoka and other young zoo visitors took advantage of the offer – lots of playful and creative tasks awaited the participants. Together with DJB mascot Yoko, the children laughed and in the end could be happy about a badge they had won. The small animal park Göppingen really big!

“Berlin, Berlin, we’re going to Berlin!” was the message afterwards. On August 6th, many sports-loving kids visited Tierpark Berlin. Word got around about the judo safari and so clubs, families and friends from the surrounding area came to the zoo. Augsburg Zoo concluded the summer break of almost two weeks. Here the judo safari was held together with the Children’s Peace Festival. The exciting safari stations were part of a diverse range of over 40 hands-on stations.

A total of over 1500 boys and girls have taken part in the judo safari so far. Next week the judo safari will be a guest at the Neunkirch Zoo. The other tour stops in 2022 at a glance:

Six exciting hands-on activities await you on the “Zoo Safari”. At the respective stands, the children and young people can complete various judo-specific and other sports activities, which are supplemented by a creative part.

After going through the safari stations, the participating children and young people receive a special certificate, a patch and a sticker – based on their performance at the stations. This campaign is primarily about having fun while exercising. Therefore, every participant is a winner!

Pack your family and friends and off you go

This open offer is not only aimed at young judoka, but at everyone. Openness, integration and inclusion are very important to us. The safari tasks are characterized by an inclusive character, which should enable all children and young people to be part of the entire event.
