Jago Geerts puts the dots on the i with a great victory in Sweden | Motocross

Jago Geerts shone in Uddevalla. Our compatriot won the Swedish Grand Prix in the MX 2 category, despite great pressure from his French competitor Tom Vialle. The difference in the World Cup standings between Geerts and Vialle remains 23 points.

Series 1: Vialle wins for Geerts

In the first series Jago Geerts finished in second place. The Belgian only had to tolerate Tom Vialle.

The 21-year-old Vialle made a fierce start and immediately took the lead authoritatively.

Due to a fall, the one year older Geerts briefly tumbled from 2 to 3, but the 2nd place had our compatriot again just as quickly.

However, Geerts could not tamper with Vialle’s superiority. Geerts did not insist too strongly, perhaps not to take any risks with a view to his World Cup chances.

Due to his victory in series 1, Vialle – virtually – lost 3 points on Geerts.

Liam Everts seized the 8th position.

Series 2: Geerts wins for Vialle

In the second series, the roles were reversed. This time, both Geerts and Vialle didn’t get off to a great start.

Moreover, Vialle turned out to be only human and after a remonte – due to a slider – lost his 2nd position to Geerts early in the race.

Geerts had a taste for it and after a captivating fight he passed leader Simon Längenfelder, 3rd in the World Cup standings.

Meanwhile, Vialle had started an impressive catch-up race and was able to chase both Längenfelder and Geerts. Längenfelder quickly went for the axe, but Geerts wouldn’t budge.

The Belgian World Cup leader withstood every attack from Vialle and drove quite comfortably to the series victory. Also the victory in the Grand Prix was for Geerts, as he finished in series 2 for Vialle.

Liam Everts rode to 10th place in the second heat, also good for 10th place in the GP.

In the World Cup standings, the difference between Jago Geerts and Tom Vialle remains 23 points. It promises to be an exciting week. There are 3 more GPs, in Finland, France and Turkey.

“Happy”

“In the first race I made a small mistake, which caused me to lose a few seconds. I was unable to make up for that,” Geerts reacted after the race.

“In series 2 I again didn’t make the best start, but I was able to gain ground systematically. At the end Tom came to really chase me, but I resisted him and won. I’m really happy.”

No world title for Tim Gajser yet

In the MX GP the Swiss Jeremy Seewer was crowned the winner in Sweden. He recorded his 3rd win of the season and trumped World Cup leader Tim Gajser, who will have to wait a little longer for his 4th World Championship crown in the MX GP.

Seewer has been doing very well in recent months, but Gajser’s margin seems wide enough.
