Ingebrigtsen reste maître du 1500 m

Two days after his 5000m title, the Norwegian also retained his 1500m title.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen untouchable. The Norwegian prodigy retained his title of European champion in the 1500m on Thursday in Munich, a distance of which he is also the reigning Olympic champion, two days after having already won the 5000m as in 2018.

In the rain, Ingebrigtsen, who has also been Olympic champion in the 1,500m since last summer, took the early lead in the race and did not let go to win in 3:32.76, far ahead of Briton Jake Heyward (3:34.44) and Spaniard Mario Garcia (3:34.88). Frenchman Azeddine Habz finished tenth (3:40.92)

The young Norwegian half-founder, who will turn 22 in a month, could not however take his revenge on the recent World Championships, in July in Eugene (United States). Briton Jake Wightman, who had surprised him in the world final in Oregon, has indeed chosen to line up for the lower distance, the 800 m, in Bavaria.

«The rain reminded me of home“said Ingebrigtsen after his coronation. The Norwegian athlete has already built up a considerable track record: crowned Olympic champion in the 1,500m last summer in Tokyo, became world champion in the 5,000m and vice-world champion in the 1,500m in July, he is now quadruple champion from Europe.
