In Guingamp, the new basketball structure, delivered at the end of September – Guingamp

The reinforcement is placed. And the roof installed. For the past few weeks, the Espace Sportif de Cadolan has seen a new structure take up residence there. A 600 m² street basketball court adjoining the city-stadium and the roller-skating track. “We want to make Cadolan a multi-sports site open to all,” said Charles Monfort, sports assistant for the municipality of Guingamp. “The basketball court will therefore be usable by ABC Guingamp, as well as by schools or individuals”.

An approved land

If this structure enriches the sports landscape of Guingamp, it makes it possible to offer, once again, the practice of basketball outdoors. This was no longer the case since the renovation of the Prieuré stadium in 2018 and the disappearance of its old grounds. Except on city-stadiums, in Roudourou for example, but not totally adapted to the practice of the orange ball due, in particular, to a synthetic turf surface.

While at Cadolan, it will be approved thanks to an asphalt floor on which a resin will be poured. It will be able to host matches in five against five as well as in three against three, a discipline which became Olympic in 2021 during the Tokyo Olympics and is now developing within many clubs. And, in order to be able to play in any season, the construction will be completely covered with a white tarpaulin. On the other hand, unlike the football field, “no lighting for the moment but the arrivals are planned”. And could, in the long term, be connected according to the use of street basketball.

We are going to put bleachers thirty meters long.

Tiers over thirty meters long

Initially scheduled for spring 2022, delivery of the architecture is finally announced for the end of September. The reason: the start of construction was thwarted by the discovery of a water point on the site. But since then, the structure has grown. And will continue to develop on the part backing onto the roller track. “We are going to put bleachers over thirty meters long”, announces Charles Monfort. The perfect spot to watch the many dunks scored by basketball players. As for the other three sides, they will remain open.
