Hugo Américo Lusardi, former player of Deportes Tolima, died of cancer

The football family, and especially the environment of the Sports Tolima, was shaken in recent hours with the death of one of the many players who came from abroad to reinforce their ranks. The same one who, no matter how hard he tried, could not win the most important game of his life: the one who fought against cancerwho ended up taking it just at 39 years old and still a future in football.

This is Paraguayan offensive flyer Hugo Américo Lusardi, who played for the ‘Vinotinto y Oro’ in the second half of 2013, with 11 games played out of 18 in the League, 622 accumulated minutes and two annotations. And although his performance – to tell the truth – was not the most outstanding, in a transition campaign for the team, he is remembered for his kindness towards the press and the fans.

On ‘Guaraní’ soil, Lusardi became famous for his exquisite punch with his left leg, and because just the year after leaving the ranks of the ‘tribe’ (2014), by not meeting expectations, qualified with Nacional de Asunción to the final of the Copa Libertadores: On a payroll in which he shared with a later former member of the Ibaguer eleventh, such as midfielder Marcos Benjamín Melgarejo.

“From the Nacional club we express our condolences for the death of Hugo Américo Lusardi, former vice-champion of America playing with Nacional”, was read in the statement of the ‘tricolor’ team, in which the soccer player’s death was announced. Even the eleventh of Ibagué has not spoken in its official channels about this death, which took the family of this sport by surprise.

The painful thing about this event is that Hugo lost his life just two days before what should have been his 40th birthday, in a long career that led him to success and failure.
