Heriberto Morrison launches his Shared Passion

Heriberto Morrison, one of the most prestigious journalists in the sports area of ​​the Dominican Republic, put into circulation the book: “Shared Passion. Sport and Literature”, in a ceremony held last Friday in the Professor Juan Bosch auditorium, of the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Library, located in the Plaza de la Cultura. This Morrison production represents the first text in the country that addresses the historical link between sports and literature, the two passions of the author.

During the act, Yvette Marichal masterfully read the poem Baseball Canto, by the American writer Lawrence Ferlinghetti, who makes precise references to the immortal from Cooperstown, Juan Marichal, who at the time of the poem’s publication in the 1960s, was in the prime of his life. his career with the San Francisco Giants; one of the most emotional moments of the work. Juan Vila, deputy minister of sports, on behalf of Miderec, described Morrison as the writer of excellence on Dominican sports.

Mateo Morrison, National Literature Prize 2010, was very emphatic when he said that whoever touches this book, touches Heriberto Morrison himself, because of the meaning of the work for his brother.

The veteran writer and sports journalist thanked God for allowing him to materialize his work, which had been on the agenda for several years, and his nephew, Nelson Morrison, president of the Extensus Foundation, to whom the book is dedicated.

During his speech he also mentioned his deceased friends and colleagues Emilio -Cuqui- Córdova, Bienvenido Peguero and José Óscar Fernández, whom he considered highly motivated.

Similarly, he mentioned his collaborators for this work, Luisa Rodríguez, Awilda Féliz, Rossana Guzmán, Jusmeily Féliz, Leidy Polanco and Fausto Severino. Also to his brothers Ramón and Mateo, his wife Yrma, his children Yadira, Raymira, Egbert, Erika and Jennfer, to his cousins ​​and nephews.

The Extensus Foundation, an important support for the publication of the work, recognized Morrison for his contributions to Dominican sports literature and especially for the publication of this work, the only one of its kind.
