For the coming winter, Hana Mazi Jamnik has been nominated for the Slovenian national team for the first time. Now the 19-year-old cross-country skier is dead. She died in a tragic accident at the training camp.
Dhe home World Cup was to be their highlight. The Nordic World Ski Championships will take place in Planica, Slovenia next winter. Cross-country skier Hana Mazi Jamnik wanted to be there and was recently called up for the Slovenian national team for the first time. Now the talent is dead.
On Thursday morning, the 19-year-old was on her roller skis at a training camp in Norway when she collided with a truck. The accident is said to have occurred in a small tunnel near the town of Jörpeland in the south-west of the country.
Mazi Jamnik was still taken to the hospital, but was pronounced dead there, police attorney Sveinung Andersen explained to the TV station “TV2”. The cause of the accident has not yet been clarified. A blood sample was routinely taken from the truck driver, his driver’s license was taken and a report was filed. The driver’s lawyer has protested his innocence to the Norwegian newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad.
Great sympathy at home
The sympathy in Mazi Jamnik’s homeland is great. “You will always be in our thoughts. We will miss you,” wrote the Slovenian Ski Association and laid out a mourning book in the association’s headquarters in Ljubljana. Her partner Anze Gros, also a cross-country skier, said goodbye to Instagram with emotional words.
“You always cared about everyone around you and brought positive energy into everything. We planned our life and we wanted to be together until the end. I will miss your hugs and the fun things we did alone. I love you,” the 20-year-old wrote.
