Giorgio Chiellini: The real reason he came to MLS | Other Soccer Leagues

A love story with Juventus is what Giorgio Chiellini experienced in Turin. He arrived at Juve in 2005, and from that moment on, a great bond with the club was created. However, the beginnings of the Italian central defender were at Livorno, and later, at Fiorentina.

17 seasons as Juventus defender and captain that came to an end. Although he still has years to spare for Giorgio Chiellini, and he has looked good physically, he did not want to accept offers from European clubs, and ended up in Major League Soccer with Los Angeles FC. He has been in California for a short time, but his adaptation has been perfect. He has added two starts, and is the happiest footballer every time there is a goal for his team.

In addition, he has been seen very well as a defensive partner with Jesús David Murillo. He looks like a little boy who is just starting his sports career, with joy and hope of succeeding in the United States. At 37 years old, he wants to settle in the eleventh of Los Angeles FC. When the match against the Seattle Sounders ended, Chiellini spoke with the Diario Marca de España about his choice to reach the MLS.

He surprised with the signing of Los Angeles FC arriving after a long time at Juventus. For this reason, he preferred to join the MLS, and not another European club, out of respect for the ‘Vecchia Signora’. They asked him if there was another offer in the old continent, ‘not because, honestly, my only club is Juventus. I wanted to try a new experience and MLS and this team were the best solution for my last years of career, also discovering a new city, a new culture, a new way of seeing sports and business. That’s the main reason I’m here.’

In turn, they asked him about a possible link with Real Madrid, and he reiterated that his team was Juventus, and he never thought of leaving. ‘Nerd…! The truth is that I never thought of going to another team in Europe in recent years because I am too attached to Juventus. I was close to Real Madrid, but in 2010, a long, long time ago’, explained Giorgio Chiellini.

Real Madrid left for the Portuguese Ricardo Carvalho, and Giorgio Chiellini commented on what happened in those conversations, ‘I don’t know, I was young. The clubs also did not reach an agreement. I think I’ve been lucky to spend my entire career at Juventus. Of course Real Madrid is a fantastic club, I see it from afar. I’ve always loved them, even when they beat me.’

They insisted again on his possible arrival at Real Madrid, and he reiterated that he was not thinking of moving from the team of his loves in Italy, ‘it is that after spending your career and making history in a club like Juventus, with everything that has Given, it is impossible to think of another team. I really consider myself lucky for that.

Although he did not plan to move from Juventus, he did not hesitate to say that he would have loved to be coached by Carlo Ancelotti, ‘the results speak for him. He is a great guy. It makes me sad because I would have loved him to train me because he is one of the best in history, me too in recent years… I wish him all the best in these last years of his fantastic career.’ Out of love, and out of respect for Juve, he made the decision to join the MLS, and not another European club.
