In a gripping final over 100 meters, Gina Lückenkemper surprisingly sprinted to the gold medal at the European Athletics Championships in Munich. The Berliner wins the eighth medal for the German team.

Sprinterin Gina Lückenkemper sensationally won gold over 100 meters at the European Athletics Championships in Munich. The 25-year-old Berliner prevailed in the Olympic Stadium after a gripping finish in 10.99 seconds in front of the Swiss Mujinga Kambundji at the same time. Bronze went to Britain’s Daryll Neita (11.00).

“I’m so incredibly grateful to you,” said Lückenkemper to the raging fans, after crossing the finish line she fell and was bleeding from her leg: “I have so much adrenaline in me.” Verena Sailer last had gold in Barcelona in 2010 in the 100 m for Germany won.
