Flamengo, in the semifinals of Libertadores; International seeks the same instance in South America

Without stepping on the accelerator fully, Flamengo beat Corinthians 1-0 on Tuesday, who never showed any signs of life in the Maracana, and stood in the semifinals of the Copa Libertadoresafter the 0-2 achieved in the first leg.

In the classic between the two great Brazilian soccer teams, the Rio de Janeiro team applied the law of minimum effort and, without looking too hard, took the win thanks to Pedro’s goal at the start of the second half (m. 52).

Flamengo looks more and more alike to the team that amazed the continent in 2019 under the orders of the Portuguese Jorge Jesus. Now on the bench is a Brazilian coach seasoned in a thousand battles: Dorival Júnior.

Since taking office last June, the Rio team has regained lost momentum and continues to dream of repeating the final that it cruelly lost to Palmeiras last year.

Gabigol did not score, but Pedro did, who has already scored eight goals, today the top scorer in this edition of the Libertadores; and the class of the Uruguayan midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta reappeared.

Flamengo, which already chains nine games without defeat, will fight for a place in the final against an Argentine team. Vélez Sarsfield and Talleres, the candidates.

Corinthians, indolent at the Maracana, finished with a man down after the expulsion of Uruguayan Bruno Méndez in the 68th minute and could have left thrashed if it weren’t for Cássio’s saves.

Those of the Portuguese Vitor Pereira go home with a worrying statistic. They haven’t won for four years as a visitor a game of Libertadores.

Flamengo economized their efforts very well. The 0-2 of the first leg gave him a comfortable cushion to face the clash without stress. Although almost by inertia, he became the owner of the ball.

Internacional seeks the Semifinal of the South American

The Brazilian Internacional de Porto Alegre will seek this Thursday at home to qualify for the semifinals of the South American Soccer Cup when they receive the Peruvian Melgar de Arequipa, after drawing 0-0 in the first leg.

The coach of Internacional, Mano Menezes, confirmed the newly hired Argentine striker Braian Romero, who arrived from River Plate in Buenos Aires and has already defended Athletico Paranaense from Curitiba in Brazil, as the starter.

Romero will take the place of Alemao, expelled in the first leg in Peruvian territory.

The only doubt is that of midfielder Alan Patrick, who hopes to be released by the medical staff in the next few hours, but if he does not recover from the discomfort, his place will be taken by Mauricio.

In the last day of the Brazilian League and lining up a mixed formation, “Inter” was thrashed, 3-0, in their visit to Fortaleza, in a result that stagnated them with 33 points in sixth position, twelve behind the leader Palmeiras.

Melgar, meanwhile, did not play on the previous date of the first division Peruvian Championship, in which their last match was on July 29 against UTC Cajamarca, which they beat 1-0 at home.

Those led by the Argentine Pablo Lavallén, who took over in place of his compatriot Néstor Lorenzo -Colombia’s new coach- are in seventh place in the League with nine points, five behind the leader Cienciano de Cusco.

For the game in Porto Alegre, the Inca team will have its entire main squad available, led by Argentine striker Bernardo Cuesta.

the victor of the series will be quoted in the semifinal against the Ecuadorian Independiente del Valle de Sangolqui, who on Tuesday eliminated the Venezuelan Deportivo Táchira de San Cristóbal in Quito.
