FC Barcelona: Good for Lewandowski! Barça announce next mega deal – SOCCER

FC Barcelona has taken in more fresh millions!

That was also badly needed. So far, the Catalans have not been able to register any of their millions of newcomers to play in the Spanish league. First and foremost: ex-Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski (33). The new LaLiga season starts on August 13th.

But now a cautious all-clear: There is fresh coal for the heavily indebted Spaniards! Barça President Joan Laporta (60) announced at the press conference when introducing newcomer Jules Kounde (23) that his club was able to bag another deal.

“We sold 25 percent of the television rights and 25 percent of the Barca studios to Socios.com for 100 million euros,” said the Barça boss.

Barça bag new 100 million deal!

Laporta visibly proud of the deal: “We’re doing our homework to register the players.”

However, a short-term registration of Lewandowski, Kounde and Co. does not seem to be in sight. Now the Spanish league has to be appeased. “We do whatever they ask of us to be able to register the players. But I firmly believe that the league will not put any obstacles in our way. I hope they take the same view as we do. If not, we will find a solution,” Laporta said.

There has been a salary cap for Spanish clubs since 2018. This is to prevent the clubs from becoming over-indebted. Barça, Real Madrid and Co. are only allowed to use 80 percent of their budget for salaries. Due to declining sales, the Catalans have had difficulties for a long time in complying with the requirements of the Spanish league.

Another way to lower the payroll budget would be to sell players. So far, however, Barça has only moderately succeeded in doing so. So far, no buyer has been found for slow sellers like Samuel Umtiti (28). Sales candidate Frenkie de Jong (25) is also still with the club – and it could stay that way. The Dutchman doesn’t want to give up his lavish Barça salary. He had therefore already rejected a move to Manchester United in the Premier League.

Therefore, Barça must continue on the path of selling rights. Laporta further stated that it was able to sell an additional 24 percent of the rights to subsidiary Barça-Studios. Approval was secured at a general meeting.

Barça had previously sold 25 percent of its TV rights to the US investment company Sixth Street. The Spaniards received over 500 million euros for this.

Now the next mega deal is through…
