Failed to get Cucurella, Man City Sign Sergio Gomez from the Belgian League

Manchester

After being left by Oleksandr Zinchenko and failing to get Marc Cucurella, Manchester City continue to move to find a new left-back. Newest, they will be landing soon Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht.

Reported by the BBC and Sky Sports, Anderlecht has agreed to release the 21-year-old player for 11 million pounds plus bonuses to Man City. The Spaniard will soon arrive in Manchester in the next 48 hours to undergo a medical.

Last season, Gomez performed well with Anderlecht. Transfermarkt recorded him in 49 games across all competitions, scoring 7 goals and providing 15 assists. The impressive record is believed to be one of the reasons Man City signed him.

Even so, Gomez is not necessarily included in the main Man City squad. The Citizens plan to loan him to another club that is still under the auspices of the City Football Group, possibly to Girona who this season is playing in LaLiga.

That way, Gomez can get flying hours playing in the big European leagues, playing against top class players. It is hoped that when he returns to Man City, his game is more mature.

Man City is actually in short supply of left-back after Benjamin Mendy was suspended for being charged with rape. There are still Nathan Ake, Joao Cancelo and Aymeric Laporte who could be placed there, but that is not their natural position.

Therefore, although Gomez may still enter the first team, Pep Guardiola is believed to be still looking for another left-back in the remaining time of the summer transfer window. Currently, there is Raphael Guerreiro (Borussia Dortmund) who is being targeted.

Guerreiro currently has an affordable valuation for Man City, which is 25 million Euros. This amount is still considered reasonable compared to Cucurella, who was valued at 50 million by Brighton & Hove Albion, and was eventually released to Chelsea.
