European Judo Cup – Mina Libeer wins bronze medal in -57kg in Coimbra

(Belga) Mina Libeer won the bronze medal in the under 57 km category of the European Judo Cup round on Saturday in Coimbra, Portugal.

Libeer, 12th in the world, lost on ippon in the final of her draw against the Chinese Can Qi (IJF 46) and was sent to repechage. For her first repechage match, she won by ippon against China’s Qianxi Lin (IJF 136) before winning by ippon against Portugal’s Ana Agulhas (IJF 173) in the fight for bronze. In -48 kg, Ellen Salens, 38th in the world, qualified for the semi-finals by beating the Spanish Eva Perez Soler (IJF 103) by ippon. For a place in the final, Salens lost on ippon against China’s Zongying Guo (IJF 47) before suffering another defeat, also on ippon against Portugal’s Catarina Costa (IJF 4) in the fight for bronze. In the men’s under 60kg category, unranked Olivier Naert was sent to repechage after his loss on ippon to unranked Portuguese Emerson Silva. Naert, 19, then beat unranked Portuguese Ricardo Pires on ippon in his first repechage fight before losing on ippon in the bronze medal fight against Ukrainian Kyryl Samotug (IJF 216) (Belga)
