For local hero Oliver Zeidler, the European Rowing Championships in Munich started with a win. Undeterred by a mishap at the start, the 2019 single world champion still won the heat in a commanding manner and thus made it straight into the semi-finals.

On the Olympic course in Oberschleißheim, which is his home, the 26-year-old relegated the Bulgarian Kristian Wasilew to second place after a large deficit at the beginning with a lead of a good boat length.

On the other hand, the Germany eight missed a win as expected. Like almost five weeks ago at the World Cup final in Lucerne, the DRV parade boat around batsman Torben Johannesen (Hamburg) had to admit defeat to the currently overpowering British, but substantiated his claim to a medal as a preliminary second.

The start of the European Championship was not very successful for the rest of the DRV fleet. Also one-hope Alexandra Föster (Meschede), who had surprised with a victory on the Rotsee in Lucerne, did not get past fourth place with a big deficit. With a total of ten DRV starts in the 14 Olympic classes, there was only one victory for Zeidler.
