Powell, from Walsall, won a gold medal against Gambian Faye Njie to claim the -73kg title at Coventry Arena, while Moorhead beat Canadian Gauthier Drapeau in the men’s -81kg division.
England won a total of five medals, with Gemma Howell taking silver in the -63kg category and bronze medals for Katie-Jemima Yeats-Brown and Kelly Peterson-Pollard, while Country of Wales also won bronze.
Howell, 32, was denied a fairy tale comeback after losing by golden score to Canadian Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard.
However, Howell, who underwent 10 surgeries due to her sport and nearly retired after missing out on a place at the Rio Olympics in 2016, said she was proud to have reached the podium.
“We’ve fought this year before and it’s been eight minutes, so I always knew it was going to be a close fight,” Howell said.
“It was always neck and neck – last time it was my turn, this time it was her who won. I would have preferred that to the Commonwealths but I did my best.
“My career has been a rollercoaster. I thought I would quit in 2016, so I don’t know how I managed to continue, but I did.
