Edu Expósito chooses Espanyol instead of Girona

BarcelonaEspanyol has reached an initial agreement with Eibar for Edu Expósito. The 26-year-old Cubelles midfielder will wear white-and-blue for the next five seasons after the Perico club paid a transfer of between three and four million euros to the Basque entity, which last year left stay at the gates of First after dominating the Second Division for many days. Expósito was also on Girona’s agenda, but will eventually go to Cornellà-El Prat. He believes that Espanyol’s project is more ambitious, he values being close to his family after many years living and playing in the north of Spain (first at Deportivo de la Coruña and then at Eibar) and he will have certain conditions better financial terms than those offered to him in Montilivi, where at the moment there is not enough salary margin to register the signings.

Expósito arrives at Espanyol as an alternative to Luis Milla, first choice for the core player who will eventually play for Getafe. The Madrid midfielder was relegated to Segona a few months ago with Granada and had many proposals to continue his career in the state elite. One of them was that of Espanyol, which also had the endorsement of the new parakeet coach, Diego Martínez, with whom Milla performed at a very good level at Nuevo Los Cármenes. However, Getafe’s bet was firmer: five million euros for Granada, the transfers of Cabaco and Jonathan Silva and the final transfers of Ignasi Miquel and Miguel Rubio. For Expósito, Espanyol will pay between three and four million, more or less what Girona offered, but if they ended up taking the footballer it is mainly because of the city factor and the existence of an exciting project, they point to the ARA sources of the negotiation.

Presentation at the beginning of the week

The forecast of the white-and-blue entity is to present Expósito between Monday and Tuesday of next week. The one from Cubelles is the fifth new face confirmed for the team for the season that will start next weekend with the League. Joselu Mato, Vinícius de Souza, Brian Oliván and Lecomte join him in a list that will be expanded before the end of the term to incorporate new players. We must also add Vilhena, signed as a property, and Pol Lozano, who returns from loan. Among the folders of Domingo Catoira, however, a possible exit mainly stands out, that of Raúl de Tomás. What happens in the market until September 1 will largely depend on what the Madrid striker does, who continues to unfurl the daisy in the face of an increasingly uncertain future.
