Doping suspension costs Fernando Tatis Jr. his contract with Adidas

The mighty sports effects company Adidas announced Friday that it has terminated its contractual relationship with San Diego Padres player Fernando Tatis, from the Dominican Republic. after he was suspended for use of performance-enhancing substances.

According to ESPN, a company spokesman confirmed the contractual break.

“We believe that sport should be fair. We have a clear policy on doping and we can confirm that our alliance with Fernando Tatis Jr. will not continue,” the spokesperson told ESPN.

Tatis was suspended for 80 games on August 12. Major League Baseball sanctioned him because the anabolic steroid Clostebol was found in his system. The 23-year-old player alleged that the positive result occurred because he used a skin medication in the Dominican Republic.

This past week, the 23-year-old, who in 2021 signed a 14-year, $340 million deal with San Diego, apologized to his teammates privately and publicly.

“I failed a lot of people. I have lost so much love from people. I failed. I have failed everyone. I failed the San Diego Padres front office, Peter Seidler and AJ Preller. I failed every fan in this town. I failed my country, my family, my parents. I am truly sorry for my mistakes. I have seen how my dreams have become my worst nightmares,” Tatis told the media on Tuesday.

Tatis also has contracts with companies like Gatorade, BMW Dairy Queen, Jack In The Box and PlayStation.
